Pitching/Paramedic Pilot
Tom Davis
The new pitching coach for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots comes to us with a long history in pitching and paramedics. Born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, he graduated from Peoria Richwoods and attended Western Illinois University where he received his paramedic degree.
Tom Davis pitched in numerous leagues around the Midwest, including a team in which baseball great - Jim Thome (now with the Minnesota Twins) was a bat boy. Tom and Jim remain friends. Unfortunately, after being scouted by two major league teams, Tom received a career-ending injury to his right shoulder.
During a long career with the Moline Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic, Tom continued to build his coaching skills for teams and private individuals in the Quad City area. Upon retiring, he wanted to stay close to the game and thus went into coaching Little League and American Legion ball, specializing as a pitching instructor.
Over the years, he has become friends with Glacier Pilot's manager – Teri 'Yogi' Cox and baseball hall-of-famer Fergie Jenkins. When Yogi asked Tom to come to Anchorage with him to be pitching coach, Tom said, "It was a no brainer."
Tom currently resides in Coal Valley, Illinois with his wife Teri and their two children Cole and Lauren and two grand children Mena and Parker.
Tom's strong suit is pitching mechanics that fits in perfectly with the young pitching staff coming to the Glacier Pilots in 2010.

Ben Mount

Class: Sophomore
Hometown: Coto de Caza, CA
Showing great improvement from the beginning to the end of the 2009 season with the Glacier Pilots, right-hander, Ben Mount has already moved into the starting rotation at the U of Southern California. He played for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots and made four starts in twelve games and had a two and two record with a 2.65 ERA in 34 innings. He allowed 26 hits and 10 earned runs while walking 14 and striking out 26 with a .206 opponent's batting average.
Ben tells us, "I decided to return to the Glacier Pilots because I loved the atmosphere of this club. The fans were great, and they always got rowdy for home games. It made it really fun and easy to come to the ballpark every day ready to play and compete. My host family, the Palowskis, was awesome as well. They took me in and helped me with whatever I needed, whether that was getting directions when I got lost in the middle of nowhere, or more food when I had raided their fridge."
At school in 2009, Ben recorded a 3.18 ERA in seven appearances and five and two-thirds innings. His longest stint of the season came on April 25 against Washington State with two no-hit innings and two strike outs.
Ben says, "My experience last year was great. I feel like I learned a lot by experimenting with different things on the mound and discovering my strengths against the other ball clubs. The competition is at a high level and it forced me to improve quickly to survive. I think that the ABL helped me to grow tremendously as a player."
In High School, Ben Mount was a three year varsity letter winner at Capistrano, California under Coach Rick Brail. He was the South Coast League's MVP, All-County second team and all CIF first team after going 6 and 3 with a 2.54 ERA and won the state Connie Mack championship game with 10 strikeouts.
This summer, Ben says, "I think that the coaches will have me keep improving my mental game on the mound, helping me to know what pitches to throw and how to get certain guys out easily. I like the new turf. It'll help keep the field in good condition in bad weather and keep us playing."
Ben Mount is majoring in Public Policy and Development at USC. Born on September 26 to parents, Larry and Julie...Ben has a brother, Christian, and a sister, Emily. He lists Cal Ripken Jr. as his biggest sports hero. His favorite movie is 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly...favorite TV shows are Family Guy and King of Queens...he listens to Nickelback, the Beatles and CCR. He says, "My family came to Alaska last year to visit and check out the sites. I think my dad will come back this year. He had a great time watching our team play."

One of the five players returning to the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in 2010 is Trevor Hairgrove from UC-Riverside. Trevor said, “I chose to return to the Pilots because of the experience I had playing in Alaska, the program, and other kids on the team. The main reason I am coming back is because of how much fun I had last summer. Yes I was there to play ball, but the joy I had playing is what prompted me to come back.”
In 2009, Trevor finished second in the Big West Conference in assists ... was ranked second on the team in triples; third in runs scored, walks, games played and started; fourth in total plate appearances and at bats; and fifth in runs batted in and doubles. He had 12 games with multiple hits including four with three base knocks and he recorded seven games with multiple RBIs including three with three RBIs.
Trevor hit .217 with 28 hits, 4 doubles, and 11 RBIs before a serious finger injury ended his playing with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in the last week of the 2009 season. In 2010, Trevor feels that his coaches will have him work on his hitting, and fielding. Mainly focusing on how consistent he can be at the plate. When asked about playing on the artificial turf infield, he said, “The new artificial turf affects me greatly! I had 19 errors last summer, and I would say about half of those were due to the playing field. The new artificial turf is what made my decision to come back that much easier. I also think it will make the games much more competitive because now there won’t be any bad hop errors.” In High School, Trevor was a three-year letter winner at Redlands East Valley; named First-Team All-County in 2006 and played in the North-South All-Star Showcase and played for the 2006 Dodgers Elite Team. He was named All-League as a junior and senior. Trevor, the son of Lance and Annette Hairgrove, is majoring in interdisciplinary studies with the goal of playing professional baseball or being a teacher and coach. He cheers for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the San Diego Chargers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. His favorite athletes are Derek Jeter, Lebron James, and LT. He enjoys eating salmon, shrimp, and steak. His favorite books are “The Da Vinci Code” and "Angels and Demons" and his favorite writer is Dan Brown. He enjoys watching "Fantasy Factory," "Nitro Circus" and "Survivor" ... Lists “Transformers," "Angels and Demons" and "Gladiator among his favorite movies. His hobbies include golf, body boarding, and napping. He cites his father as his biggest influence for pushing him to do his best and not to hold back. His most memorable sports moment is hitting three home runs in one game, one of which was a grand slam. Trevor is the first in his family to receive a scholarship to play a sport in college.
Trevor says he had a lot of fun because all the different things he’s done in Alaska - it was nothing like living in California. He’s hoping his mom and grandma will be able to come up and watch him play in Alaska.
